How the Lo Shu grid is built
Write out the full date of birth and take every digit except zero. Add the driver number, which is the birth day reduced to a single digit, and the conductor number, which is the whole date reduced to a single digit. Place each digit in its fixed box: 4 9 2 on the top row, 3 5 7 in the middle, 8 1 6 along the bottom. A digit that appears twice is written twice, and an empty box is a missing number.
For 14 August 1992 the digits are 1, 4, 8, 1, 9, 9, 2. The driver is 1 + 4 = 5 and the conductor is 34 reduced to 7. The finished grid therefore holds 1, 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 9, with 3 and 6 missing.
